Three days is the sweet spot for Amboseli: enough time to stop chasing the classic Kilimanjaro shot and simply wait for it, while some of the biggest-tusked elephants left in Africa get on with their day around you. The park’s swamps act like a magnet, pulling in elephant, buffalo, hippo and clouds of waterbirds regardless of season.
The full middle day is what makes this itinerary work, bracketed by a dawn drive when the mountain is sharpest and a sundowner view from Observation Hill with the whole park at your feet.
South through Maasai country, arriving for lunch and a first afternoon among the elephant herds.
A dawn drive for the clearest Kilimanjaro views, the swamp circuits at midday, and Observation Hill for the sunset panorama across the park.
One more early circuit for the big tuskers, then the drive back to Nairobi by late afternoon.
