What Drives the Price for Two People
Four things move the number more than anything else.
Season. July through October, the dry season and the wildebeest migration, costs the most. Camps in the Mara can charge 30 to 50 percent more than in the April to May rains. November and early December, and January to March, sit in between.
Where you sleep. A tented camp inside Mara North Conservancy costs more per night than a lodge in the Masai Mara National Reserve itself, partly because conservancy fees are built into the rate.
Fly-in versus road. Flying from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to a Mara airstrip like Ol Kiombo or Musiara takes about 45 minutes. Driving the same route takes 5 to 6 hours each way from Nairobi, depending on the state of the Narok road.
Sharing. This is the one competitors mention but rarely show in numbers. Nearly every safari vehicle, guide, and tent is priced per person based on double occupancy. Quoted safari rates almost always include the room, meals, and daily game drives with a shared or private vehicle. They usually do not include:

- Travel in the shoulder months. Late June or early November often has migration-adjacent wildlife with lower camp rates than peak August.
- Choose a road transfer over a fly-in for a shorter trip. You save USD 300-450 per couple, though you lose a half-day each way.
- Pick a Reserve camp over a conservancy camp. Reserve fees are lower and lodges like Mara Serena still put you close to the river crossings in migration season.
- Skip the balloon, keep the sundowner. A sunset drink on the escarpment, arranged by your guide, costs nothing extra at most camps and delivers the same moment for free.
